HC CHICAGO HOT LIST.

The only thing better than good food is good, cheap food. Ritual, a food-ordering app, is partnering with about 250 Chicago restaurants for a special promotion if you use the app with Apple Pay. They call it “Eats Week Chicago” — read up to see if your favorite lunch spot is in on the fun.

To kick off the Halloween season, spend your weekend next to a campfire and in front of the big screen at Campfire Horrors at Northerly Island. Every Friday in October, watch movies like The Birds, Friday the 13th, and Night of the Living Dead under the stars. Admission is free — marshmallows included!

As far as we know, this warm weather isn’t going anywhere. For a crisp fall morning activity, head out to the ‘burbs and go apple picking at any of these orchards around Chicago. Don’t forget to pick up an apple cider donut (or 12).

TECH TIDBIT.

Almost a year ago, Bumble announced it would be expanding its services to create a swipe-based platform for professionals seeking to make connections. BumbleBizz will work similarly to Bumble – meaning it is woman-led and curates a group of individuals for users to “swipe through” based on location, network and other factors. BumbleBizz will hopefully lead to mentor connections, job opportunities and expanded professional networks. No worries, however, BumbleBizz allows users to create a separate profile from their regular Bumble accounts!

CAMPAIGNS WE LOVE.

In the chaotic aftermath of the deadliest mass shooting in recent U.S. history, Uber and Lyft have stepped up to help those impacted by the Las Vegas tragedy. Sunday night, both companies announced that they will be waiving surge prices and giving free rides to and from hospitals and family reunification locations. To encourage residents to donate blood, both Uber and Lyft are also offering free rides to and from United Blood Services donation centers. The locations in which rides are free are listed on the companies’ website and Twitter accounts.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT.

Heartbreakers, indeed. Legendary rock star Tom Petty passed away peacefully Monday night. He was surrounded by family, band mates and friends during his final hours. After his rise to fame, Tom Petty collaborated with music greats, including Stevie Nicks, Bob Dylan and George Harrison, creating music that, in his words, is “really honest and clean and pure and it touches you in your heart.”
